Hydrogen: Tomorrow’s Promise, Today’s Proof?
Driving Europe Upside – Down!

The hydrogen future has started and we proved it in 2024.
European tour of 15.440 zero emission km on hydrogen.

What was the project?

To prove that it is possible to travel or transport on a hydrogen fuel cell, zero emission vehicle throughout Europe.
In 104 days across the European coast, through 12 countries without any emission, to show the world that hydrogen is the future and the future has started now. We wanted to proof that with the right storage and planning there is no limitation today to really start the transition to hydrogen.

We were driving in a modified Ford 150 Lightning. The modification was needed to charge the batteries during driving from the hydrogen powercell.

We travelled with a special designed trailer camper which is equipped with extra H2storage tanks to enlarge energy storage and to range up to 1.200 km.
We, André and Els Molengraaf, are two enthusiastic entrepreneurs and married for more than 30 years and combine both of our businesses and our love for travelling and working in different countries and cultures.

Why?

Hydrogen plays an important role in reaching the targets of the Paris climate agreement for 2030.
Over the last decade people always spoke about hydrogen as the fuel for the future.
We wanted the world to know that the future has started. H2storage can deliver part of the solution to fulfill the climate agreement of Paris today. We can continue discussing about the best way to store hydrogen under high pressure, cooled and liquified, in ammonia or in any other optimized way in the future. The fact is that we are able to store hydrogen today under high pressure, and use it as an energy carrier for the fuel cells or combustion engines in a car, truck, van or other heavy duty application today.

Zero emission workation Italy 2025

This year, May and June 2025, we do a workation in Italy. During our H2roadtrip in 2024 we loved the way of working and travelling so we wanted to do this also in 2025.

About us

We, André and Els Molengraaf, are both two enthousiast entrepeneurs and both love to work, innovate, create, travel and take a challenge. This roadtrip combined all of this. During this road trip we organized Hydrogen information and promotion events in several countries. We informed about the latest developments of the hydrogen industry and how we were able to travel more than 15.000 km throughout Europe.

André Molengraaf

Andre has been in vehicle conversion and manufacturing for more than 30 years and started H2storage BV with 3 partners in 2018. H2storage develops, certifies and produces high pressure hydrogen storage tanks and storage solutions. André converted the first Mercedes Benz Sprinter into a hydrogen fuel cell Sprinter back in 2010. Way too early for market acceptance. After that he worked for different Truck and Bus manufacturers in the management and development of zero emission heavy duty vehicles. André still is converting
vehicles today. With a specialized team he delivers special funeral service vehicles, off course low- and zero emission.

Els Molengraaf

Els is an enthusiastic, professional entrepeneur, specialist in project/event management.
For more than 30 years Els is organizing congresses, incentives and events for several companies in the Netherlands and abroad. For the last 12 years she has her own company Els4Organising, where most of the projects/events are in the healthcare and education sector. Because she likes to travel and get in contact with other inspiring female entrepeneurs she also organizes Inspiring Work Breaks for female entrepeneurs
in Spain and Italy.
Besides her work as an event/projectmanager she also started a concept store Studio LEEV Style with her enterprising daughter Eva during the corona time, in which she started making wooden serving board and other creative items.

Eva Molengraaf

Eva is the daughter of Andre en Els and is also an entrepreneur as event manager, producer (95thavenue) and co-owner of the concept store Studio LEEV Style. She likes to be the spider in the web tying all moving parts together in a fluid and natural way. She likes the enthusiasm and creativity of both their parents and will be the home base and will take care of everything (business wise), during the H2 road trip of her parents.

Lars Molengraaf

Lars is the son of André and Els and also contributing to the H2Roadtrip. Entrepreneurship is in Lars his blood, however he does not express this in starting a company by himself. He rather uses his entrepreneurial behavior as a Lean Engineer in all kinds of improvement projects at a manufacturing company. As a perfectionist, he consults his parents in all possible ways. From rewriting texts from our website to being a sparringpartner in brainstorm sessions.

How & technology

To prove that it is possible to drive more than 15.000 km throughout Europe on Hydrogen we drive in a Ford 150 Lightning pickup truck. We have modified our truck to charge the batteries from the truck by the fuel cell during driving. This combined range of the Ford F150 Lightning longrange plus the fuelcell in combination with the 28 KG of hydrogen the trailer brings us a range of the 7 ton combination of 1.100 km without refilling.

Conclusion

Hydrogen, Tomorrow’s promise or Today’s proof’ that is what we ourselves when we started to prepare our H2Roadtripmore than 2 years ago.
We (my wife Els and I) started the H2Roadtrip end of April this year. Our target was to pass through 12 countries and drive 12.000 km to Istanbul along the European coast in 100 days, to promote the use of hydrogen and the H2storage tanks and systems.
Did we achieve it? Yes and No.
